Welcome back, Freefall Comics fans! I’m thrilled to announce that the Freefall Comics website is back up and running. Over the Christmas break, we temporarily took the site offline to perform a much-needed overhaul. The entire site has been rebuilt from the ground up, and we hope that your happy with the results.
For those of you wondering why we decided to take such a big step, let me explain. The website was running on an outdated and overpriced Content Management System (CMS). For those unfamiliar, a CMS is the software that powers the structure and functionality of a website. It’s what allows us to manage the content you see—things like blog posts, comics, and announcements—without having to rewrite the code every time we make a change. Unfortunately, our old CMS was not only behind the times but also incredibly inefficient, outdated, clunky, and incredibly overpriced. It was time for a change.
In addition to my work with Freefall Comics, I’m also a web development teacher, so this kind of project is right in my wheelhouse. When we realized how badly the site needed an update, I approached it with the same philosophy I teach my students: sometimes, starting fresh is the best way forward. I wanted to ensure that the site would not only look great but also function smoothly for both our team and our visitors.
The rebuild involved updating every aspect of the website, from the backend code to the layout and features you see on the surface. By moving to a modern CMS, we’ve streamlined operations, improved site speed, and enhanced security. It’s the kind of transformation I love showing my students—how smart design choices and efficient coding can breathe new life into a project.
Of course, even with all the testing we’ve done, there’s always a chance something might not work perfectly for everyone. If you experience any issues while exploring the updated site, please let us know. You can leave a comment below, or better yet, visit our Contact page here to report the problem directly.
This relaunch marks an exciting new chapter for Freefall Comics. I’m personally proud of the work that’s gone into this overhaul and can’t wait to share more updates with you throughout the year. Thank you for your patience during this downtime, and we hope you enjoy the fresh, improved experience.
As always, your feedback is invaluable, so don’t hesitate to reach out. Here’s to an amazing year ahead with Freefall Comics!
